These are Mike Rother’s closing remarks at the 2014 European Lean Educator Conference. How do we prepare students for the future when we don’t know what the future will bring? How can they get comfortable with challenging goals and navigate the grey zone between here and there? ANSWER: Instead of just solutions, we can teach a universal, scientific way of *developing* solutions. The Improvement Kata & Coaching Kata do that by combining a scientific working pattern with deliberate practice, to make scientific thinking a ‘meta-skill’ that anyone can acquire.
