One of the hardest things about being a Product Manager/Owner is knowing whether we are building, discovering or validating the right things. Having a well thought out and articulated strategy can be your best friend if you know how to use it in your daily routine. One of the most common questions I am asked after either presenting or having been presented a strategy is, “Now what?”. How can you prevent a strategy from becoming stale or being seen as something that gets updated every year just as a “tick the box” exercise?
I am keen to share my successes (and some failures) and the tips and tricks I have picked up along the way to harness the power of a company or product strategy to excite, align and motivate people.
After years of Project Management, I made the switch to become a Product Manager and I have never looked back. I have been lucky enough in the last seven years to have worked in both a start-up company as the only product representative with a month to month budget to now working for a big multinational SaaS provider with a dedicated product team. My experiences have taught me that while on the surface leading a digital transformation from a physical product portfolio to a digital-first offering and enhancing features of an already successful platform may seem worlds apart, you will find that a key set of principles can set you up for success in any situation.
